Teaching in Tiered COVID Restrictions
21st of December 2021: This information has now been updated. Please see a full summary of our guidance via the button below.
PREVIOUS UPDATES (2020)
You do not need to cancel all your classes and should read our guidance below.
You can check what Tier you're currently in at this link.
The current Obby Guidance is as follows:
Teaching in Tier 1* (medium):
You absolutely must follow COVID-Secure Guidelines (which can be found in our declaration here), adhere to the 10pm curfew if you are teaching indoors, display the NHS Test & Trace QR code at your venue and insist that masks are worn at all times.
Teaching in Tier 2* (high):
As well as following all the guidelines in Tier 1 (above) you must also limit all mixing that takes place between households/support bubbles.
Activities, such as organised indoor sport, indoor exercise classes and other groups groups, can continue provided that households or support bubbles do not mix during the sessions.
Venues following COVID-secure guidance can host more than 6 people in total, but no one must mix or socialise indoors with anyone who they do not live with (or have formed a support bubble with) unless exemptions apply.
To keep everyone as safe as possible, we advise that every student in attendance sits socially distanced from one another (even if under the same booking) and interaction between students is kept to a minimum.
Teaching in Tier 3* (very high):
Unfortunately, many Obby teachers who operate within a designated Tier 3 area would not be able to run classes during this time, however some will be able to remain open based on exemptions that may apply to your business, which you can read about here.
At all times, we encourage our teachers to add plenty of dates in the new year and encourage customers to reschedule and also run Live Online classes to keep your students and audience engaged. More on how to do this here.
Teaching in Tier 4* (Stay at Home):
Most Obby teachers operating within a designated Tier 4 area would not be able to run classes during this time, unless you are providing formal education. You can read more about this here.
*There are a number of exceptions for each Tier relating to classes for children, registered/formal education & training and other circumstances. You can read more about this here.~~
Please note that any guidance we provide, relating to COVID-19 or other regulations, is general advice based on our interpretation of the regulations and official guidance. However, we cannot provide legal advice - teachers seeking legal advice should consult their own lawyers to obtain advice specific to their particular circumstances.
